Federal UNpatented Gold LODE Mine & Mining Claim, THE WESTERN STAR Gold, near Custer, in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  20.66 acres, 1500 x 600 ft.  Forest service dirt road access to the claim and right up to the old workings and camp area.  There's a large tailing pile next to the filled old shaft,  that went down at least 100 ft. Remnants of old mining structures,   Lots of Quartz veins on the claim.  A famous old claim, noted in many of the reports.  Rather secluded area.  Homestake Mining Co had this whole area claimed up way back when.  Most work was done here in the 1930s. Gold was only $35 OR LESS an ounce at the time of the last workings; Gold is now above $4,500.- an ounce.  The large, deep old shaft has been caved or filled but i wouldn't trust it, be safe!.  I have a cancelled stock certificate from this mine from the 1930s when it was operating, it was capitalized. There's still MORE gold here.....  We took a number of samples that we plan to have assayed independently over the winter. If they come back like I think they will, this price on this claim will likely go up considerably.  We have found small amounts of gold here just going through the tailings, its all in the quartz and matrix.  I know there's more.  All of the gold i found so far here is been in the smaller quartz veins in the host rock, not in the larger chunks (yet).  This was found using a pinpointer going thru the tailings for about 2 hours, and taking samples.  I filled 2 buckets and have been breaking down the rock.  I have a sample of white quartz with visible gold, I will include that sample in the sale as proof of discovery.  Based on this I believe there's a large amount of overlooked gold in smaller quartz veinlets in the host rock in the tailings.  And there is still more underground, but that is hard to get to, but has potential.  There is a private ranch to the west of the claim.  This claim has the old workings, and remnants of the old structures and camp. There are a number of old photos in the South Dakota Historical Society website of this site over the years. Many of those old pictures (see screenshots in listing photos) were taken by Watson Parker, who wrote a book about gold mines and mining in the Black Hills.  This is an important locality.   You won't find anything else like this for sale in the Black Hills.  ALOT of old history here!

Located on the Ground, Recorded with County & BLM with filed BLM serial number #MT106754156which you can verify with the online BLM MLRS website.

Mining Claims are VERY HARD to get in the Black Hills. I was very lucky in getting this claim, almost all of the good ground and old mines in the Black Hills are already claimed up by the Gold Mining Companies or the Lithium Companies more recently.  F3 Gold is in the area to the southeast.

Report photos are from Allsman (1940) Bull #427, Recon. of  Gold Mining Districts in the Black Hills.  The old reports say it is possible the deposit is more extensive than thought.  Homestake was back in here and I have seen indicators this could be a large replacement deposit extending further out from this original discovery.  Relocated by Christopher Wentzell (me, the seller DominionGems) on 8/16/2025 and under active, valid mining claim BLM MLRS#MT106754156.

GOLD IS WAY UP.  This is A PROVEN GOLD MINE AND CLAIM.  I will consider REASONABLE OFFERS, please message me.  I am a South Dakota resident and I have been prospecting, digging and mining in the Black Hills since 2011.  Please also beware of out of state sellers trying to sell you a claim on worthless ground!  I live and dig here and know the good ground from the fake claims.  I will allow you to test the claim if YOU CONTACT ME FIRST and provide certain info.  It is winter right now which makes testing difficult if not impossible until summer.  NO DIGGING, TESTING OR DISTURBING EARTH OR MINERALS WITHOUT MY PRIOR WRITTEN PERMISSION, anyone caught doing so without permission will be dealt with legally. Thanks for understanding!
